Being in a film studies class, introduces to some rather brilliant films your probably would have never stumbled upon in a million years.
This film is one of those;
This is Le Jetee, the film is by Chris Marker, it's science fiction and made up entirely of still photographs. It's from 1962 and it tells the story of a post-apocolyptic Paris after the third world war. In which the underground inhabitants are experimenting with time-travel. Whats interesting is that even though the images are not actually moving they feel as though they are.
I do like the style this film is made in, I love the frenchmans voice, I think it would work well in other languages but I really don't think it would work well in English. Or even an American accent over the top, they just don't seem to hold the same sophistication that this frenchmans voice exhibits.
Anyway thats by the by, so I've decided I'd quite like to make a film like this, there are several films I want to make but one like this would seem the easiest. The thing is I'd quite like to experiment with making things look like they are different then they are, for example; a crack in the road could serve as a crack along a desert landscape.....
Heres one I took today
If I told you this was a crack in some dusty desert landscape, I reckon you'd believe it, this is another idea that really intrigues me about photos, like how you can make the stems of a few flowers look like a jungle and so on.
Anywho I don't want to do the post apocolyptic thing, Le Jetee did that, I really would quite like to do a horror though or a thriller or muder mystery. I think it would be quite interesting, you don't see killer, you don't see your main character just body parts. I'd love to be able to have a lovely foreign language voice over telling the story, unfortuneatley I think I would just have to settle for some music and subtitles. The prjoect is definatley in the think tank.
So what do you think? What New Projects do you have in mind? Or have you recently completed? Any budding photographers got any advice for me?
