A Review of The Taker by Alma Katsu.

The Taker by Alma Katsu.

The Taker is a minty fresh breath of air in a world so dominated at the moment by a tween culture hooked on Twilight.
When I first picked up the book in ASDA, I admit I judged it, I read the back saw the words immortals and thought, oh no another product of the vampire craze that's going on. A craze I'm not a fan off, I like my vampires like Mitchell on Being Human except maybe less Human. Now however I'm misleading you because this is a book far from vampires, this is about humanity.
This is Lanny's story, after she arrives in the E.R one cold night, Lanny begins to tell Luke a tale of love reminiscent of that from Wuthering Heights.
The book begins by leading straight into action that tickles every part of your curious being, I fail to see how anyone can not read at least the first few pages and not want to know more, not want to know who Lanny is, where she has come from, what led to her to being in that ER.

Diagnosis Murder: a tale of Love and Obsession =)

It will come as no suprise to people who have peered onto my facebook that I love Diagnosis Murder, but I recently realised that while i have been doing this blog for a while I don't think i have written one post about this amazing show. I've tried to restrain myself from writing about Harry Potter or indeed Diagnosis Murder.

I first watched this show when I was in primary school, I've got no idea how old I was, I don't even remember the first time I actually watched it, my mum tells me it was after having my teeth out at the dentist once. All I know is that from that day forward any sick day would be accompanied by an afternoon spent in the company of the wonderfully bright Dr Sloan and his family, who in case I haven't mentioned are quite adept at solving murders in L.A.

So won't you indulge me a little as I waffle on for a while about, my favourite characters, episodes and scenes of this amazing and brilliant show.

Weight..... It's a funny word.

Weight, I hate that word along with dress sizes, skinny, fat, obese, anorexia.
Some people are naturally fat some naturally thin. Who wrote the guidelines for what the ideal weight is?
Probably some doctor hauld up in a room somewhere.

Today in our culture were obsessed with weight, with eating and unhealthy earting, were obsessed with how we look.
I disgust myself, not because I'm fat or overweight whatever you want to call it but because I sometimes picture myself as this slim supermodel, it's depressing that image and makes me feel disgusting the image of the skinny girl makes me a little sick, a skinny me for who? The people who look at me? would it make me feel any better? the answer is no. It's the vainnes that makes me feel sick I should add, not the thought of me as I am.
I don't want the attention of males, I don't want people looking at me and thinking wow, I'm a curvy girl (size 16) and proud of it, sure when some people look at me they might see a beautiful girl, but most won't, most people will have to speak to me before they judge me, I'd rather someone fall in love with my personality then my looks. Spoken like a true fat girl you say. NO!
Spoken like a true wierd looking kid. I don't want to be beautiful and glamourous which would be the only reason for loosing weight.

I know I know the health, the health thing. To be fair I've got a pretty throwaway attitude to my life. I'm an insignificant dot in a vast universe. I figure we just live it. Thats life shit happens, if I die young I wanna die fast, If I die old a grey so be it, come what may. People say life is worth fighting for. I don't know if it is though, I mean really life doesn't change that much after certain experiences it does for a while and falls back into the same patterns. Same epic fails and smae epic highs. It's just a rollercoaster. When your times up your times up. People will tell me I'm wrong and blah blah blah it's my life at the end of the day, I live it day to day, I'm not crazy I don't take drugs go out drinking all the time or go thrill seeking I just live my life how I live it.  I'm sorry if it sounds selfish, I'm not a selfish person, but life is the one thing that is truthfully ours to do what we want with, in a matter of minutes I could end all of it. Or carry on.

I know that health is a big issue and what not and I'm not telling people not to be healthy. I'm just saying that people should be comfortable in their own skin, if we all looked the same the world would be a place rather like a scene from equilibreum. I believe that everyone should be comfortable in their own skin.
Fat, thin, tall, short, gay, straight, black or white. Be healthy but be happy. If you are happier as a size 16 be a size 16 if your happier as a 12 go to a 12.

My point is everyone should be happy in their own skin and if you are happy in your own skin then don't let other people try to change you or bring you down. It's your life live it the way you want. :)

Most People Have Best Friends......

I've given up on the challenge I can't keep up with it at all. Anyway back to the blog at hand.

Most People have a best friend, at least one, someone who knows them inside out. My mother has four, my brother has a few, my boyfriend, people I went to college with, people at uni, people at work. Everyone seems to have a bestfriend with the exception of me. Bit over dramatic, I'm sure there are people outthere who don't have best friends. Everyone I know seems to have at least one though.
Boyfriends aren't the same as bestfriends. I always seem to drift though I make friends but they never seem to stick. Like I'm that awkward puzzle piece that just floats over all the others and trys to fit with others.
I always thought this was a bad thing and then I realised I had something better, something that would and never could hurt me.
While most people have best friends, I have Harry Potter and Diagnosis Murder. This is not to say that I'm crazy, let me explain...
I don't remember the first time I watched Diagnosis Murder but I remeber vividly when I was at school. I used to set my video recorder every day for 3 years maybe. 2:15 on the dot and the recorder would do it's thing taping my precious programme, because, it was mine. Thats what I told myself anywho.
I can remember the way it felt, I would get home but I would never truly feel home until I sat down in front of that, It's strange, it was like a wave crashed over me and suddenly I was like a ghost, a mute who was a part of this wonderful world but at the same time I never truly was. I'm not crazy, I never used to imagine them talking to me or anything. It was just a sense of belonging a sense of wonderment and magic at it.
Potter was like this for me to, in particular Prisoner Of Azkaban, I only had to open the book and this wave crashed over we, this wave of feeling like I belonged somewhere. It was amazing.
On this feeling alone I got through anything and everything in my life, anytime I felt sad insecure, down upset, angry. I didn't need anyone to hug me, to comfort me to talk to.
I just used to open these books or watch this programme and everything would fade into oblivion. I imagine the rush could be compared to what an addict feels, because I did become addicted to them.
So while most people had best friends I had these. I never needed anyhting more or less. It would be nice to have some best friends, I wished I had a set up like Mark Amanda Jesse and Steve or like Harry Ron and Hermione or the Marauders before them but I don't. Maybe that will come later in life. The only thing I can do is Keep on living.
