The Simple Art of Comedy.....

Last night I watched a rather brilliant film, a film so bad it was good, it didn't have amazing visuals, beautiful scenery and a cast of hollywoods biggest and brighest upcoming stars.
No this film consisted of middle aged men, run of the mill women and animals.
Last night I watched Fierce Creatures a film from 1997 starring John Cleese, Michael Palin, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ronnie Corbet Kevin Kline and Robert Linsay.

Fierce Creatures is a film that is very similar to a little film called A Fish Called Wanda, that film contains much the same cast, with the exception of Corbet and Linsay.

In Fierce Creatures, Jamie Lee Curtis and Kevin Kline come from America to London to manage a failing zoo sometime after new manager John Cleese has arrived. The big wigs at the top of the chain want to improove the zoo to get more visitors in and it is decided that a fierce creatures policy will be put in place, where by only the most dangerous animals will be kept in the zoo.

To try and improove their audience, Kevin Klines dumb-ass character puts up advertising that degrades the animals and their keepers. After several events the zoo is saved and John Cleese and Jamie Lee fall in love just like in A Fish Called Wanda.

Now the film isn't going to win any awards, but it's a bit of fun, it's the sort of film you can escape into for and hour, you want to be a part of the ordinary goings on rather then the drama of a hollywood film. The film is especially fun for those of us who love a good old Python film or AFCW because their are countless little references to both shows, and the comedy is clear throughout.

It's films like this, that really make me want to make films. Their fun, like Python, Wanda, Hot Fuzz, Paul, Son of Rambo and Starter for 10. Their not only fun to watch but they give off an air that says they had so much fun making this film, that despite any bad bits it was fun making it and that what counts, more then Hollywood films which just seem to be more stress then fun to film.

Anyway I reccomend Fierce Creatures to any Python or Wanda fan :)
